2011 was another great year for VLM. We sent 18 committed and dynamic volunteers to various projects in Ethiopia. Noel Brennan and Suzanne McKane opened up the year for us by travelling to Mekele and Dembidollo in January, fifteen others travelled during the summer months, with Anne Molloy bringing our year to a close this December after two months in Woylita from October to December. Welcome home Anne! We developed new partnerships with three new projects and look forward to working with them again throughout 2012.
St. Joseph’s School, Bulbula
We have just learned that a funding application we submitted on behalf of the Daughters of Charity Ethiopia, to Misean Cara has been successful! The grant of €66,600 will go towards the construction of the mandatory pedagogy centre and toilets for the school. This school is a vital resource in an area that has little or no infrastructure and a population of 25,000, the majority of whom are subsistence farmers. We are delighted to support the growth and development of this wonderful. Photos of the work in progress will be published in 2012.
