Last weekend our out-going volunteers, together with leaders travelling with the Castleknock College 5th year group, took part in VLM’s annual Volunteer Pre-Departure training at All Hallows College, Dublin. The group were welcomed by Dorrie Balfe from the All Hallows Mission and Values Office, who recounted the college’s history of mission and the Vincentian charism.
Throughout the weekend inputs were also given by Fr Stephen Monaghan CM on VLM’s Vincentian Ethos, Margaret Carroll-O’Reilly on travel health and wellbeing, Fr Memheru Konnen CM, an Ethiopia Vincentian studying in Kimmage Centre for Development Studies on Ethiopia in context, Michael Kelly from the VEC on Child Safeguarding and Gareth Conlon and Karen King from Development Perspectives on volunteering as charity or justice? Mary Anne Stokes, VLM’s Project Co-ordinator, spoke about best practice in gift and donation giving, as well as presenting the Dóchas Code of Conduct on the use of images and messaging.
We wish to thank all of our facilitators and wish all of our volunteers well with their continued fundraising. Volunteers will begin to depart from June 4th and we look forward to publishing their photographs and stories when they return.
