Sponsor a School Place – Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Many of our previous volunteers will fondly remember the school in Atse, Ethiopia. Some of you may have volunteered there. It was this school that inspired the founding of VLM, with our first volunteers being welcomed there in 2002. We now have this sad message to share from Sr Aster –

“Due to the governments new policy of developing land along rivers, houses are being demolished and we are sad to say we also had to say goodbye to Atse School. The school was officially closed in July and workers are labouring day after day destroying it. The students, teachers and parents were devastated. We also joined them in crying the sorrow in the goodbyes. Parents expressed their gratitude to the Daughters, to VLM donors, volunteers and founder Fr Michael McCullagh. Everything has its beginning and end. Please pray for our people, especially for the parents and students of Atse School. So many VLM volunteers have done marvellous work here.

We would love to help give children who attended Atse school the chance to continue their education at St Mary’s School run by the Daughters of Charity in Addis Ababa. For €30 per month or €360 for the year you can sponsor the school fees for a child from Atse. If you are interested in giving a child the gift of education please get in touch or donate using the button below. Thank you.
