How to Volunteer
We aim to match the skills of our volunteers with the needs of our community partners. Volunteer placements generally require a commitment of at least 4 weeks and can be arranged throughout the year. We return to the same communities year after year, working to create sustainable, lasting change.
Step 2
Apply
Applications are open year round. Please find the application form here

Step 3
Meet us
We aim to match the skills of our volunteers with the needs of our community partners. This means you getting to know us and us getting to know you. Meetings can be held in person or online.

Step 4
Pre-departure training
VLM provides extensive pre-departure training. This includes what to expect, how to prepare and several other elements of volunteering to consider. Pre-Departure training also offers the opportunity for you to meet previous VLM volunteers and hear about their experiences.

Step 5
Volunteer
Volunteer placements generally require a commitment of at least 4 weeks and can be arranged throughout the year. Certain volunteer placements may be shorter depending on the volunteer role. We return to the same communities year after year, working to create sustainable, lasting change.

Step 6
Return & Reflect
VLM is all about ‘reverse mission’. Very often, volunteers can often take more from a volunteering experience than they bring (this doesn’t mean that volunteers can’t contribute a huge amount to those they work with!). We hope reflecting on your experience will allow you to enter the next step on your journey.

Step 7
Vincentian action
VLM offers several pathways with which you can engage upon reflecting on your experience overseas:
- Further Volunteering with VLM
- Fundraising
- Advocacy Work
- DOVE
- Further volunteering with other Vincentian Family members e.g Society of St. Vincent dePaul (SVP) and DePaul Ireland
