Safeguarding

The safety and wellbeing of the people we work with is our priority. We have a zero-tolerance approach to abuse or exploitation.

Safeguarding people from exploitation and abuse caused by our representatives, programmes or activities remains a core commitment for VLM. We work to ensure that safeguarding is embedded throughout all our work both in Ireland and overseas.

We are committed to creating an environment which prevents abuse and exploitation and have in place a suite of policies including safe recruitment, safeguarding, code of conduct and mechanisms for raising and responding to concerns. All volunteers must provide two references and they are subject to police clearance checks. Safeguarding is covered in the pre-departure training and VLM has a Child and Vulnerable Adult Safeguarding Policy available for download

As VLM works in partnership with the Vincentian Fathers and Daughters of Charity, we also work with them to strengthen their safeguarding policies and practices.
