Songea is a small city in the south of Tanzania. The Vincentian Fathers run a school there for 1200 pupils. The school has many pupils that cannot afford to pay their fees and this has a knock-on effect in that the school struggles every month to pay it’s staff. The school is unable to provide lunch for the children due to financial limitations. Research shows that this makes children less likely to attend school. Sponsoring a school place in Songea for €21 a month provides an education for a child but also contributed to the salary of a teacher and economic sustainability for their family.
