Ambo Lazarist Deaf School (ALDS)
Ambo Lazarist Deaf School (ALDS) VLM are thrilled to report that the new building at the Ambo Lazarist Deaf School (ALDS) run by the Vincentian Fathers in Ethiopia has opened!! VLM Coordinator Madeleine Frissung attended the official opening ceremony on 17th April 2026. The building contains a large multi-purpose hall, library, IT classroom, staff room and a sewing vocational training centre. VLM were able to bring this building to life thanks to a total of over €280,000 funding from Misean Cara, St Vincent’s Castleknock College, Castleknock College Union, the Vincentian Solidarity Office, Tropical Health Alliance Foundation, individual donors, and with the support of the Vincentian Fathers in Ireland. Graduations have recently taken place in the building and orientation sessions are ongoing at the sewing vocational training centre in advance of the first term starting in September. Several deaf school graduates have enrolled onto this course, which will give them increased opportunities for employment on completion. This is a huge achievement for the Vincentian Mission in Ambo and we look forward to sharing more news on activities. Share this article
